YSR Congress supporters win six societies
Directors supported by the Congress and the Telugu Desam have won the posts of presidents of nine Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies each in Visakhapatnam Division on Friday. The YSR Congress supporters claimed six PACS and elections in seven PACS were postponed.
According to unconfirmed information available here, the Congress and the YSR Congress are likely to grab one each among the seven PACS for which elections will be held on Saturday.
Out of the seven PACS, the fight is between the Congress and the TDP while the Congress and YSR Congress are locked in a tussle in two PACS. Though the PACS elections were not held on party symbols, Congress, Telugu Desam and YSR Congress went all out to grab the first phase of elections in the district. TDP appeared to be behind the Congress and the YSRC just behind the TDP when results of directors’ elections came out on Thursday. But it was a surprise for the Telugu Desam, which witnessed serious internal party bickerings in the recent past with a clear divide visible between two groups in the district, coming on par with the Congress in the elections to the presidents’ post on Friday.
Elections were held on Thursday for the 29 out of 43 PACS in Visakhapatnam Division.
Earlier, two PACS were decided unanimously and elections to 12 PACS were not held due to either government postponing them or courts granting stay orders.
The second phase of elections in the district would be held in Elamanchili Division on February 4.
Telugu Desam Polit Bureau member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu on Friday pulled up the warring groups of the party in the district for the unsatisfactory show in the first phase of PACS elections. Mr. Ramakrishnudu, told senior leaders of the party who met him at a star hotel on Friday morning, that group politics would not be tolerated in the party and stern action would be taken against those trying to break the unity.
Only those working for the good of the party and follow its discipline would be recognised, he said.
MLA V. Ramakrishna Babu, city president Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar, former MLA P.V.G.R. Naidu (Ganababu), Bharanikana Rama Rao, Harshavardhan Prasad and others met Mr. Ramakrishnudu.
