`Better for the party to critically evaluate itself'

GUNTUR: The Telugu Desam Party and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) have come together in the State to counter "the anti-people" policies of the Congress, said TDP official spokesperson Kodela Siva Prasada Rao.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, he said that people and parties were fed up with alleged corrupt and selfish regime of the Congress. "It is better for the party to do a critical evaluation of the causes for its ally joining hands with us," he said.

`TDP gaining strength'

During last elections, the Congress had unabashedly used the police force and employees for its selfish means. It was trying to repeat the same in the coming elections, he alleged. The TDP was gaining strength across the State but it remains to be seen whether the Government would hold the elections in a transparent and democratic manner to help people elect according to their choice, he said.

"The party condemns the alleged remarks made by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president K. Keshava Rao on the TDP being a party of a particular community. Ours is a secular party and the presence of leaders from all communities, regions and religions proves this," he said.

The allegation of the Congress that regional parties were hindering the development of the country was false and misleading, he said. The Congress was a national party with a regional outlook whereas the TDP was a regional party with national outlook, which played a crucial role in the formation of National Democratic Alliance government, Dr. Rao said.
