Rajahmundry: The Congress party is ahead of others in finalising strategy for the Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) elections to be held in first phase in East Godavari district on June 28.
Notification is going to be issued on June 13 for 58 ZPTC and 1,129 MPTC posts.
Two Ministers - Jakkampudi Ramamohana Rao, Gollapalli Suryarao and district in-charge Minister Sabita Indra Reddy along with DCC president Thota Narasimham have divided work and started touring the district and meeting village and mandal-level leaders to finalise candidates.
"We want to implement Municipal election strategy in this election also," said Minister Jakkampudi Ramamohana Rao.
He also said that they would announce the list of candidates much before the other parties.
The Congress with the win in Municipal elections has started making all efforts to get ZP Chairman's post from the hands of TDP. Congress is facing serious problems like SC categorisation in Konaseema area and alliances with the Left parties.
Scenario in TDP camp
As far as the TDP is concerned, it is holding meetings at mandal-level. Youth leaders are demanding 30 percent seats while women are demanding 33 percent seats. Moreover, Konaseema leaders formed a pressure group and are demanding more number of seats.
However, TDP district president Jyothula Nehru and PAC Chairman Yanamala Ramakrishnudu along with former Ministers and former MLAs are going to have meetings on Monday and Tuesday to finalise the strategy. TDP wants to wrest the ZP Chairman seat this time too to save their face from the debacle in Municipal elections.
However, the Left parties, which have little impact and influence in some parts of the district, have started concentrating on two different areas.
CPI is concentrating in Konaseema area by contesting 3 ZPTCs and 28 MPTCs while CPI(M) is concentrating on the agency area by contesting in 5 ZPTCs and 50 MPTCs.
