President of the erstwhile Praja Rajyam K. Chiranjeevi shared a common platform at a public meeting here on Wednesday with Chief Minister N. Kirankumar Reddy and other senior Congress leaders, for the first time after he merged his party with the Congress and started donning the trade-mark Congress ‘kanduva'.
The bonhomie between the top-rung leaders of the two parties post merger was clearly evident when Mr. Reddy and Mr. Chiranjeevi praised each other, not to speak of similar ‘gestures' by all other Congress leaders as well, such as Tirupati MP Chintha Mohan, Central Minister Purandheswari, District Minister Galla Arunakumari.
Mr. Chiranjeevi waxed eloquent on Sonia Gandhi. Looking at the huge turnout of women at the meeting, he said that Sonia Gandhi should have been there at the venue to look at their ‘cheerful and beaming faces'. He said he still vividly cherished the moment when he saw a ‘glow' on Sonia's face when he called on her at her 10 Janpath residence in Delhi to announce his decision to merge Prja Rajyam with the Congress. We will all have her blessings, I am sure and pray to the God to bless her with a long life and prosperity, he said.
He then said as the ‘Congress MLA' of Tirupati he would represent certain grievances of the local people to the Chief Minister and he did so. Obviously, it evoked a spot response from Mr. Kiran as a ‘you name it—I give it' gesture. Mr. Chiru also did not forget to chant ‘Jai Congress' when he ended his elaborate address.
Schemes for women
The Chief Minister said that given the enthusiasm with which women were putting their heart and soul for their economic and social development, he felt rather compelled to launch more and more programmes for their ‘complete' welfare.
Participating in an ‘interactive' session with women members of Indira Kranthi Patham (IKP) he struck a note of optimism that he assured his government's sustained help for women groups.
