Congress party is all set to hold a huge public meeting in Visakhapatnam on September 25 with party seniors including Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy sharing dais with former Praja Rajyam chief K. Chiranjeevi.
Show of strength
The meeting touted as show of strength by the APCC president Botcha Satyanarayana would be held on the sprawling Ramakrishna Beach on Sunday evening. The star attraction would be Mr. Chiranjeevi, who is making all out efforts to rope in all the erstwhile PR legislators for the meeting.
The meeting has been christened as ‘Uttara Andhra Congress Garjana'. Party sources said the meeting was planned keeping in mind the recent merger of Praja Rajyam with the Congress.
As the party leadership had not held a major meeting to coincide the occasion, it was decided that a mega meeting in the coastal district would not only boost the image of party but also enthuse the former PR cadres.
This is also the first major appearance of Mr. Chiranjeevi on Congress party forum after his entry into the ruling party.
Though, the Chief Minister's participation was not sure till Tuesday, the APCC chief on Wednesday said that he had personally invited him. In fact, Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy was said to be planning to visit Delhi on that day.
Party cadres, Ministers and elected representatives from Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts are scheduled to attend the meeting. Party sources maintained that the idea behind the meeting was to forge better coordination among the Congress and the Praja Rajyam leadership.
There is a general feeling among the erstwhile PR leaders more particularly the MLAs that they are not getting the same support as their Congress colleagues enjoyed.
