Telangana Rashtra Samithi fails to cash in on the sentiment during the cooperative society elections

In spite of prevailing anti-incumbency factor and Telangana sentiment, the ruling Congress party had comfortably consolidated its position by winning around 33 Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS) chairperson and vice-chairperson posts during the first phase of elections held for election of 72 PACS in Karimnagar district.

Though, the Congress was representing from only three Assembly segments from the district, it had won good number of PACS in the elections.

Minister for Civil Supplies D. Sridhar Babu had ensured that out of eight PACSs, the Congress candidates won from six societies from his Manthani segment.

Similarly, government Whip Arepalli Mohan had secured the victory of seven PACS out of nine societies in Manakondur segment. However, Husnabad legislator A. Praveen Reddy had failed to win from any of the PACS in his segment during the first phase of elections.

Surprisingly, the TRS could not cash on the prevailing Telangana sentiment during this election. Only Korutla legislator K. Vidyasagar Rao could ensure the victory of 10 out of 10 PCAS in his segment. Sircilla legislator K. Taraka Rama Rao could ensure the victory of only four societies out of 10 PCAS in his segment.

The TRS could win from only 19 PACS in the first phase of elections.

Ironically, the TDP district unit had failed to garner support of the farmers in the cooperative elections in spite of TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s successful Vasthunna Mee Kosam padayatra in the district. The TDP was having strong cadre strength and good support from the farming community but failed to encash them in the elections.

In Choppadandi segment represented by Suddala Devaiah, the Congress had snatched five societies and the TDP confined itself to one PACS.

In Karimnagar segment, TDP MLA G. Kamalakar could ensure victory of two societies. In all, the TDP could win from seven societies only.

The TDP sources said that they were confident of winning more chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of PACS from Jagtial and Peddapalli segments for which elections would be held during the second phase on Monday.

Similarly, the TRS leaders also said that they would pick up during the second phase of polling for the remaining 62 PACS in the district.

Incidentally, the YSRCP had gained considerably in the cooperative elections by winning from five societies. The Telangana Nagara Party candidate had also won society in the elections. The BJP had won three and CPI one society.
