HYDERABAD: A delegation of Congress MPs from Telangana met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Friday to seek national project status for Pranahita Chevella irrigation project as it was a boon for the region.

In a memorandum, G. Sukhender Reddy (Nalgonda), G. Vivekananda (Peddapalli), K.Rajagopal Reddy (Bhongir), Ponnam Prabhakar (Karimnagar) and M. Jagannath (Nagarkurnool) — said the status would benefit seven districts in the region with a total ayacut of 16.40 lakh acres. They said the preliminary report of the Pranahita-Chevella, which envisages diversion of 160 tmcft water from Pranahita river, had got consent from the Central Water Commission.
