Candidature for Kadapa constituency

The Congress is trying to rope in Telugu Desam Party leader and Indian Barytes Corporation chairman Kandula Rajamohana Reddy into the ruling party and is contemplating about fielding him as Congress candidate from Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency against YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy.

Deputy Chairman of A.P. Legislative Council Mohd. Jani is trying to convince Mr. Rajamohana Reddy to switch over to the Congress. He reportedly held discussions with Mr. Rajamohana Reddy during his recent visit to Kadapa. Meanwhile, Dr. Mysoora Reddy is making efforts to persuade Mr. Rajamohana Reddy to seek the Kadapa LS ticket. Mr. Rajamohana Reddy, who gave a tough fight to former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in 1996 reducing YSR's margin to around 5,000 votes, is said to be the hot favourite of the TDP. However, he is said to be trying to join the Congress and contest for Parliament.

As an alternative, the Congress is said to be exploring the possibility of fielding Minister for Medical and Health D.L. Ravindra Reddy against YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy from Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party is keen on fielding its State executive member A. Harinath Reddy to Parliament from Kadapa, but he told The Hindu here on Saturday that he was disinterested.
