The Congress high command is likely to announce the names of its nominees for the March 30 Rajya Sabha biennial poll from Andhra Pradesh.
With Tirupati MLA and erstwhile president of Praja Rajyam,actor-politician Chiranjeevi, likely to get one of the four seats the Congress is able to clinch in the poll, a tough race is going on in the capital among the heavyweights for the remaining three seats. Of this, one would go to the person involved in national politics (quota of AICC). It is to been seen who would win the remaining two seats as there are many names doing the rounds, including that of Rashid Alvi, K. Keshava Rao and G. Sanjeeva Reddy (all are present Rajya Sabha MPs), Congress spokesperson Renuka Choudhry, former AP Minister Shabir Ali, YSR's brother and former Minister Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, ex-RS MP Girish Sanghi and chairman of a popular newspaper group T. Venkataram Reddy.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, who was here for the last few days to discuss with senior party leaders on the RS nominees' issue, hinted that the Congress' State unit had suggested that the opportunity might be given to those who were active and found useful to the organisation. Some sources feel that as the party high command had just re-nominated the sitting RS MPs in three other States including Rajasthan, the present MPs, whose term is going to end, have a chance of re-nomination in AP too.
