A 35-year-old woman was found murdered in her house at Shanti Nilayam in Brundavan Colony under the Chikkadpally police station limits on Saturday morning, said police officials.

The victim, J. Rajani, was the daughter-in-law of a senior Congress leader Chittaranjan.

Rajani was found murdered with stab wounds around her neck.

“We suspect that Rajani was killed when she was asleep as there were no signs indicating that the victim had offered resistance ,” explained DCP (Central) V.B. Kamalasan Reddy.

Rajani’s husband Balakishan, in-laws and sisters-in-law were taken into custody.

According to police, Rajani, hailing from Medchal, was married to Balakishan, an employee of a financial firm in Banjara Hills, 10 years ago and the couple has a four-year-old daughter. Differences cropped up between the couple when the victim came to know that Balakishan was allegedly having an extra-marital affair. Since then, the families of Rajani and Balakishan were at loggerheads.

On coming to know about Rajani’s murder, her family members rushed to Brundavan Colony and attacked her in-laws, blaming them for her death. They told the police that the victim’s husband and in-laws murdered her and later sprinkled vermillion and turmeric in the house to mislead the police that she was practising black magic.
