Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday accused the Congress of playing politics of deception over Telangana though he was even prepared to merge his party for the sake of separate statehood.

Addressing a meeting organised in connection with suspended TDP MLA and a former Deputy Speaker K. Harishwar Reddy joining the TRS in his Parigi Assembly constituency in Ranga Reddy district, Mr. Rao said the Congress was doing this despite the fact that it got weakened and Kiran Kumar Reddy government itself was in a precarious condition. The ruling party had changed its word on Telangana 12 times during the last 12 years of the struggle for separate statehood.

Mr. Rao accused former Chief Ministers -- Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and N. Chandrababu Naidu -- of lying to people for the sake of power and placing obstacles in the formation of Telangana. But he was confident of achieving the goal of Telangana, crossing all such obstacles. “We want our own rule and not that of Rajanna and Chandranna,” he said referring to the two leaders.

Calling for unity of all forces fighting for Telangana, he said the party would go to any extent to make the separate State a reality. He said he would strive hard to solve the problem of water scarcity in Parigi constituency and declare Vikarabad as a separate district. Mr. Harishwar Reddy said he had been maintaining distance with TDP for nearly two years now and was joining TRS having realised that no party whose roots were in other regions would be able to fulfil the dream of the people of Telangana. A large number of his supporters also joined the TRS.
