Secretary general of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) K. Keshava Rao has refuted the allegations of Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi that TRS had gone back on its word and said it was the Congress that went back on its word on Telangana many times.

They are forgetting the past while talking about Telangana, he said while reacting to allegations against TRS and its president K. Chandrasekhar Rao by Congress leaders and reminded them that it was both the Congress and BJP that reneged on their word on statehood to Telangana.

Why did the Congress deny Telangana all these years if it was so sincere to the cause, he asked.

Speaking at a meet-the-press programme organised by Telangana Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ) here on Tuesday he said: “I have not seen a leader like Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao who single-handedly led the movement with determination and took into his stride many ups and downs en-route”.

He kept the demand alive when Congress Ministers and MLAs who were fighting shy of even raising slogans on Telangana till Parliament passed the bifurcation bill.

They are trying to portray themselves as champions of the cause now, he said and blamed the Congress for the delay in according statehood to Telangana.

“The delay has cost the lives of over 1,200 youth and students and the ruling Congress has to take the blame for that”, Mr. Keshava Rao said.
