HYDERABAD: The Congress has reacted sharply to Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu's letter to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy complaining that the Government is neglecting the NTR memorial film award. It has blamed the previous TDP Government for discontinuing the practice of presenting the prestigious award.

G. Muddukrishnama Naidu, Congress MLA, and PCC spokesperson N. Tulasi Reddy told a press conference here on Tuesday that the TDP Government failed to announce the award for 2003 and 2004. The award had been given away only thrice since its institution in 1996.

Mr. Naidu said the TDP leaders, who unceremoniously dethroned the late leader as Chief Minister and removed him as party president, were "shedding crocodile tears for NTR."

He said the Government always respected NTR's contribution. The party MLAs would also urge the Government to revive the award. Was it not the Congress regime which incorporated word `Doctor' in the nomenclature of NTR University of Health Sciences.
