500 persons join Congress

60 CPI(M) activists attack people, pull down Congress flags

Plan to rename R. K. Nagar after Chief Minister’s son

KADAPA: Congress functionaries took out a protest rally from Ashoknagar in Kadapa on Monday and gave representations to district Collector M.T. Krishna Babu and Superintendent of Police D.S. Chauhan demanding action against CPI(M) functionaries, who allegedly attacked poor persons of III-municipal division who joined Congress recently. City Congress president B. Ayyanna, III-division corporator O. Balakondaiah, district publicity secretary M.P. Suresh and Minority Cell chairman Kareemullah and residents of III-division alleged that around 60 CPI(M) functionaries attacked people including women on Sunday night as 500 of them had joined the Congress recently. The assailants pulled down the Congress flags hoisted on rooftops in Ramakrishnanagar, they alleged.

Assuring an inquiry by Kadapa West Circle Inspector U. Suryanarayana and appropriate action, the SP urged the people not to fear as they had freedom to join any party of their choice.

Congress leaders and the affected people later took a rally to the Collector. They announced that R.K. Nagar would be rechristened as Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy Nagar and a Congress committee would be formed in the area.

The Congress leader demanded the arrest of CPI(M) leaders B. Narayana, K. Anjaneyulu, Sekhar and others. They deplored the CPI(M) attack on poor persons.
