Leaders recall the long history of the party and the struggle it waged for independence.

VIJAYAWADA: The Congress Party foundation day was celebrated on a low key in the Andhra Ratna Bhavan, the city Congress office, here on Monday.

City committee president Pyla Sominaidu unfurled the party flag on top of the Andhra Ratna Bhavan. Minister for Animal Husbandry K. Parthasarathi, former Minister Devineni Rajasekhar, Vijayawada central MLA Malladi Vishnu, Mayor M.V. Ratnabindu, former MLA Mudraboiyana Venkateswara Rao and others participated in the function.

The leaders recalled the long history of the party and the struggle its leaders waged for the Independence of the country.

They said that it was a national party that constantly worked for the protection of the country and its integrity. It had produced several great leaders, former Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy who died in a helicopter mishap, being one of the finest.

All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were able to keep alive the rich traditions and ideals of the leaders who founded the party.
