Congress backed by 40 ZPTC members to stake claim: MP

Seven TRS, eight TDP ZPTC members back Congress

KARIMNAGAR: The ruling Congress is leaving no stone unturned to retain the coveted Zilla Parishad chairman post in the district. It has been organising camps with the ZPTC members belonging to Congress, TRS and Telugu Desam.

Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, Karimnagar Member of Parliament Ponnam Prabhakar said that they were having the support of around 40 ZPTC members against the magic number of 29 ZPTCs to lay claims to the ZP chairman’s seat. He claimed that the TDP and TRS ZPTC members were voluntarily coming forward and extending support to the Congress in ZP chairman elections.

He said that they had secured the support of all the seven ZPTC members belonging to TRS and eight ZPTC members belonging to the TDP. He said that they would retain the ZP chairman post with the support of opposition members. To a query, he said that the Congress and TRS ZPTC members could not attend the ZP general body meeting to pass the condolence resolution of former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajashekhara Reddy as they were in the camps.

With regard to his appointment of chairman of District Monitoring and Vigilance Committee, he said that he would constantly monitor the effective implementation of various Central government schemes such as National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Indira Awas Yojana, Prathan Manthri Grameen Sadak Yojana, etc. by conducting quaterly review meetings with the authorities.
