Officials of the Medical and Health Department at the receiving end
Public representatives, cutting across party lines, have expressed concern over the spread of viral fevers, diarrhoea and other seasonal diseases in many parts of the district.
At the Planning Committee meeting held at ZP hall here on Saturday, they criticised the officials of the Medical and Health Department for “failing to tackle the seasonal diseases effectively.”
The issue topped the agenda of the meeting. Srikakulam MP K. Kruparani said that the Medical and Health Department was neglecting people's problems. “They have failed to prepare the status report properly. They have even forgotten about medical assistance to the people,” she said.
ZP Chairman P. Rajasekharam said chlorination was also neglected despite spread of water-borne diseases in the district. Several ZPTC members alleged that the department was least bothered about the reasons for the spread of kidney problems in the Uddanam area.
District Medical and Health Officer P. Vijaya Sarathi said that the Panchayat Raj Department was alerted to improve sanitation in villages to control the seasonal diseases. He said that the department was taking all steps to control the diseases.
Some of the members asked the administration to provide adequate fertilizers and seed to meet the demands of farmers during the kharif season. They said the farmers were forced to depend on private dealers for seed and fertilizers, which were being sold at higher prices in the market.
