Equal development of agriculture, animal husbandry, horticulture and sericulture urged

Marketing sector to be given priority to promote agriculture production

MAHABUBNAGAR: Zilla Parishad Chairperson K. Damodhar Reddy has urged the elected representatives to give suggestion to prepare a comprehensive agriculture development plan for Mahabubnagar distrct since the Central Government has selected the district in the entire Telengana region to implement Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY). He was presiding over the Zilla Parishad General Body meeting held on Thursday. He said RKVY is intended to increase public investment in agriculture and allied sectors.

Local needs

He said it is therefore suggested that village and mandal level agriculture plans are prepared basing on the agro-climatic conditions, availability of technology and natural resources. He also said focus will be laid on local needs to reflect better planning. He said though agriculture is predominant in the district the farmers are not optimistic on future prospects of agriculture.

Collector V. Usharani, speaking on the occasion, said she has attended a two-day orientation campaign at Bangalore on preparing comprehensive agriculture and allied sector plan of the district. She said the suggestions of the public representations will be incorporated in the comprehensive plan being prepared and it will be sent to Central Government by month end. She also said there was need to concentrate equally on development of agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, horticulture and sericulture in the district.

She also said marketing sector will also be given priority to promote agriculture production in big scale.

Earlier the District Water and Sanitation Agency has made a line presentation of total sanitation programme in the house.

The Chairman has urged the members to adopt two villages each under total sanitation programme and implement it. He also requested the public representatives to motivate the sarpanches to implement sanitation programme in their villages and apply for Nirmal Grameen Puraskar to the Central Government. He announced Rs.2 lakh award to the village that implements total sanitation programme in the district.

Among others the meeting was attended by Legislators Gurunath Reddy, D.K.Aruna, Rammohan Reddy, ZPTCs, MPTCs and officials.
