District Collector Smita Sabharwal on Friday pulled up Mandal Educational Officers (MEOs), headmasters and social welfare hostel wardens for failing to properly monitor the performance of students preparing for SSC examinations.

At a seminar on “integrated approach in teaching and motivation” organised by the District Educational Department here, the Collector instructed the MEOs to inspect the schools to oversee the performance of students and also the conduct of classes by the subject teachers.

She expressed concern over MEOs not visiting the schools regularly and warned them of serious consequences if they do not mend their ways.

‘Monitor performance’

When the headmasters informed that the students studying in hostels were irregular to school, the Collector grilled the social welfare hostel wardens of Jagtial. At one stage, she instructed the authorities to suspend the Jagtial BC hostel warden.

She instructed the wardens and matrons to closely monitor the performance of the students in coordination with the school teachers and headmasters.

About 31,000 and odd government students would appear for the examinations. The subject teachers of Maths and Physical Sciences and also Telugu should concentrate on improving the performance of students as majority of them were failing to clear these subjects.
