Special thrust laid to provide finance to eligible SHG members to sustain thrift activity
ELURU: Collector G. Jayalakshmi on Wednesday unveiled the West Godavari District Annual Credit Plan for 2008-09 with an outlay of Rs. 4,010 crores.
The plan proposes to earmark Rs. 1,753 crores for crop loans (Rs. 957 crores for kharif and Rs. 796 crores for rabi), Rs. 270 crores for the non-farm sector, Rs. 3,637 crores under the total priority sector.
The total projection of Rs. 3,637 crores under priority sector was made by taking into consideration the scope for coverage of new farmers under short-term credit and implementation of micro irrigation scheme. A special thrust was laid to provide bank finance to all eligible SHG members to sustain thrift activity and promote the vibrancy of the SHG movement in the district during the financial year.
An allocation for non-farm sector was to facilitate implementation of the District Rural Industries Programmes. The plan offers to fund the Indiramma housing programme under the priority sector with an allocation of Rs. 502 crores. The plan intended to fund all government-sponsored schemes under the priority sector.
Speaking at a function held in this connection, K. Ashok Babu, Lead District Manager, asserted that an earnest effort was made by the Lead Bank while preparing the credit plan to ensure that the sector-wise projections were made by the respective branches by taking into account potential available for various activities and credit absorption capacity of the stake-holders.
