Collector I Srinivas Sri Naresh has issued a set of directions to the heads of the government departments concerned to take the prescribed preventive steps to effectively deal with the impending cyclone Lehar.
Mr. Sri Naresh reviewed the multi-sectoral action plan for cyclone preparedness with the officials of the government departments and agencies concerned here on Tuesday.
The cyclone preparedness measures including close monitoring of water levels in irrigation tanks, check dams, rivulets and other water sources, particularly in the areas prone to inundation due to breaches and flash floods, were discussed threadbare at the meeting.
Later, talking to reporters Mr. Sri Naresh said the cyclone Lehar is likely to hit coastal districts by November 27 with a wind velocity of 180 to 200 kmph. Quoting the IMD reports, he said heavy rains accompanied by high velocity winds are likely to lash almost all parts of the district from November 28 to 30 under the influence of cyclone Lehar.
Five control rooms have been set up in the district to constantly monitor the situation during the impending cyclone and ensure coordinated action to prevent loss of life and property.
He asked the officials of the Agriculture department to motivate the farmers to harvest their leftover standing crops and shift the produce to the safer places. NDRF teams and helicopters will be requisitioned wherever necessary to aid relief and rescue operations during the period of cyclone, if situation warranted, he said. The services of All India Radio Station at Kothagudem and the expertise of the personnel those trained in Ham Radio will be utilised to disseminate information related to cyclone, he said.
