District Collector S. Suresh Kumar along with senior officials visited the project site of Dr.K.L Rao Sagar Multipurpose Project (Pulichintala) on Wednesday and reviewed the arrangements being made for the dedication of the project by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday.
The Collector inspected the site for makeshift helipad and the pylon, both of them being built at a tribal hamlet within Guntur District.
The area, now filled with knee length grass, would be cleared within a day and pave the way for the construction of helipad and the pylon, the Collector said while instructing the Chief Engineer of Pulichintala project to clear the ground with support from the Roads and Buildings Department.
The distance between the helipad and the pylon is about 3 k.m. and the R & B Department would clear the land to make it motorable.
A limited number of vehicles would be allowed to reach the pylon.
Revenue Divisional Officer of Guntur, Rammoorthy was also present.
In what seems to be a political decision, the Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy was said to be determined to unveil the project in the face of vehement opposition from both Telugu Desam and the YSR Congress Party. The TDP leaders have already made it clear that they would oppose the visit of the Chief Minister and expressed their resentment over the hurried manner in which the prestigious project was being inaugurated.
Desam MP M. Venugopala Reddy said at the DRC meeting held last week that the R&R package has not been fully implemented and wanted the Chief Minister to postpone the visit.
