GUNTUR: There is potential among rural youth to rise to international level in any sport, but identifying them and providing them the right encouragement is essential, District Collector Mohammed Ali Rafat has said. He was speaking at the inaugural of the three-day games for rural men and women at Brahmananda Reddy Stadium.

The Collector formally declared the games open by shooting a football at the stadium and inaugurated a volleyball match also.

He promised to provide all possible support to the youth from the district to compete at the national level.

These games were being organised to select players for the State meet, which would provide them scope to represent the State at the National level.

Shuttle Badminton and Basketball games were being organised exclusively for women, while athletics, volleyball and kabaddi were being held for both men and women.
