Srikakulam: The need to prepare a road safety plan keeping in mind the requirements of coming five years was stressed by Collector V.N. Vishnu.

Speaking at a workshop on road safety organised by the Transport Department in the collectorate on Wednesday, Mr. Vishnu said that development and widening of road network was not commensurate with multiplication of number of vehicles.


The Collector also stressed the importance of coordination among various agencies entrusted with the task of maintaining road safety.

Deputy Commissioner of Transport S. Venkateswara Rao said it was planned to organise `Safar' programme for a week in July. Steps had also been taken to exhibit animation pictures in schools with a view to inculcating traffic sense in students right from the beginning. Teams will be set up to control overloaded vehicles. Accident-prone zones had been identified and steps initiated to display signboards.
