District Collector Kona Sasidhar launched ‘hostel nidra’ programme by making a surprise visit to Government SC boys hostel to conduct inspection at Vallur in Kamalapuram mandal, interacting with the students, having dinner and sleeping on a blanket spread on the floor on Monday night.
He donned the role of a teacher by taking a Hindi lesson and pulled up the hostel instructor when the student could not properly reply to his queries. Exhorting SSC students to study hard and fare well in the public examinations, he questioned the hostel welfare officer on finding only 21 students present as against the strength of 63, exactly one-third of the total strength. He asked why most hostel inmates secured lesser marks and expressed dissatisfaction that students were not taught properly. On ascertaining that a student called Sukumar got 63 per cent marks, but was not present in the hostel, he told his parents over mobile phone to ensure that he regularly attend the hostel.
