Multi-colour painting and changed interiors add to the ambience
TIRUPATI: One immediate fallout of Tirupati getting elevated to the status of a municipal corporation from a mere municipality, which it was all along, is that its dull-looking building got a fresh coat of multicolour painting and its interiors refurbished so that its new ambience matched its upped grade.
Significantly, the conferment of corporation status and the end of the term of its elected council almost coincided and the town is expected to go to polls sooner than later to elect its first mayor and corporators.
The preliminaries are already underway.
Since the term of the elected body had expired, the District Collector, Chittoor has been made its Special Officer to look after its day-to-day affairs till such time the elected body is put in place.
Collector S.S. Rawat on Monday formally inaugurated the spruced-up premises of the corporation and later held an informal review meeting with the Municipal Commissioner, Engineer, Health and Revenue officials.
He evaluated the status of several ongoing works and the Praja Patham programme currently in progress.
Tirupati MLA M. Venkatramana also was present at the programme.
