KOTHAGUDEM: Some 69,540 coal miners and employees of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) will get Rs. 500 crores as National Coal Wage agreement (NCWA) VIII arrears payment on January 25.

The company had already paid Rs. 75 crore to its 8,305 retired employees towards the NCWA arrears on December 19, according to M. Gangi Redy, General Manager (Personnel) here on Friday.

The arrears being paid to the coal workers will be ranging from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1.5 lakh each, while the executive were entitled for more.

He said that the company had already been implementing the interim relief to all its coal workers and employees.

It was agreed to enhance the present lump sum payment from Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh to the spouse or dependant of former employees in lieu of dependant employment or payment of Rs. 6,000/- per month for pending cases.

The cases already settled up to November 19 will not be re-opened.

Some 73.80 per cent of the employees and coal workers of the Singareni were provided with housing. A total of 50,540 houses were provided to the employees in all the Singareni areas. Another 70 houses were under construction.

Moves were afoot for meeting the housing requirement of the employees as part of a time bound programme.

The company had spent Rs. 53.68 crore on medical and health of the coal workers during 2008-09. It had been running seven hospitals and 36 dispensaries with bed strength of 843.
