Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy reviewed the situation arising out of the threat from cyclonic storm Lehar with senior officials in the evening and said even though the severity of the cyclone had weakened, heavy rains were likely to batter East and West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur districts. He wanted the administration to be on high alert for taking up restoration of breaches, strengthening of bunds.
Lehar was initially expected to be accompanied by winds with sustained speed of close to 170 kmph and gusting to 200 kmph till Wednesday morning.
But the IMD’s bulletin on Wednesday evening said the wind speed at the time of landfall could be around 110 kmph.
However, officials informed the Chief Minister that three columns of army/navy/airforce had been positioned in East and West Godavari districts while another three columns were being moved to Krishna where the cyclone was expected to make landfall.
