ANANTAPUR: Minister for Agriculture and Rain Shadow Area Development N. Raghuveera Reddy stated here on Thursday that cloud seeding operations for Rayalaseema Region and South Coastal districts would launched here on July 27. He visited the radar station being set up for the purpose by Agni Aviation and interacted with the agency officials.
Speaking at the radar station, the Minister said the government had actually planned to finalise tenders for five years at once for carrying out cloud seeding operations in 12 districts, but on the suggestions of the tenders committee and the JNTU, the contract was given for only one year for now. The cloud seeding operations would continue through rest of the south-west monsoon period and the north-west monsoon period.
The minister interacted with the Agni Aviation official A.G. Jayasimha, who would be the in-charge of the radar station here, and sought to know when the entire equipment would be installed. The agency official stated that entire installation process would be completed in three days and the cloud seeding operations could be launched from Sunday. Member of Legislative Council G. Thippeswamy and Chief Planning Officer M. Sudharshanam also accompanied the Minister.
