The Civil Services Preliminary Examination in 2014 will be held on August 24 of that year, while the Main examination will be held for five days from December 14. The notification is likely to come on May 17, 2014.
Trainers say this is the first time that the prelims will be held in August. The delay, they say, could be due to the general elections next year. “As conducting the preliminary examination is a national exercise which involves the participation of many stakeholders and also a relatively ‘tension free’ atmosphere, the UPSC might have considered it prudent to postpone the preliminary examination,” said Brain Tree Director Gopala Krishna. At the same time, candidates who intend to appear for both the Indian Forest Service Examination and the Civil Services Exam in 2014 would be at a disadvantage with the reduced time gap between the prelims and the main examination, he said.
