Civil Rights Day was observed at Seethampeta village in Kothagudem mandal on Tuesday. A community lunch (Sahapankthi Bhojanam) and a meeting were organised under the aegis of the mandal officials at the Dalit colony in the village on the occasion.
The move gained significance in the backdrop of complaints lodged by aggrieved Dalits of the village against some “Upper caste” people accusing the latter of resorting to caste-based discrimination a few weeks ago. Subsequently, a team of officials headed by senior revenue officials visited the village . In this backdrop, a team of revenue and police officials conducted a meeting in connection with Civil Rights Day in the village on Tuesday. Kothagudem Tehsildhar Narsimhulu, one-town CI Naresh Kumar and others were present. Meanwhile, the villagers submitted memoranda to the revenue officials seeking redressal of their grievances including drinking water, sanitation and housing problems. The officials assured them that they would represent their grievances to the higher-ups for prompt redressal.
