Employees of the Kakinada Municipal Corporation on Friday seized the Visalandhra Book House, as the lease period of the shop that was located in the municipal shopping complex was over. Visalandhra Vignana Samithi has taken the shop on lease for a duration of 20 years, and the employees of the civic body served a notice seeking vacation of the shop only on Thursday. Even as the representatives of the book house were planning to meet the authorities concerned and seek further extension of the lease, the employees visited the shop on Friday morning with seizure orders.
Activists of the Communist Party of India (CPI) led by the party city unit secretary T. Madhu staged a demonstration in front of the shop to register their protest against the municipal authorities. Mr. Madhu wondered why the authorities were not given sufficient time to respond to the notice.
“How it is possible to relocate the shop, with hundreds of titles, to some other place within a short span of less than 24 hours?” he asked. The representatives of the book house are planning to take help of the court to reopen the shop and sort out the issue.
