A youth from the city who went missing in Shanghai, China, was traced on Tuesday. Kannuru Venkatesh (26) from Allipuram in the city went to Shanghai in December, 2012, to take up a job in a hotel.
He was in contact with his family till January 5 and thereafter there was no communication from him.
The efforts of his family members to contact him on his mobile and through email also failed as there was no response from him.
His mother, K. Ganga, approached the Commissioner of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy on June 12 and sought his help in tracing her son.
Fax messages sent
The Commissioner sent fax messages to the Ambassador of China in New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi, and to the Principal Secretary (Home) to the Government of Andhra Pradesh. On receipt of information from the Commissioner of Police, the Chinese Embassy responded immediately and alerted the Shanghai Police with instructions to trace the missing person.
The Shanghai Police traced Venkatesh and made him contact his family members here.
Venkatesh spoke to his family members at 3 p.m. on Tuesday and informed them that he met with an accident, lost his mobile phone and was undergoing treatment in hospital.
Venkatesh also informed his family members that he was safe and would return to India soon.
