Citizens living within the GHMC jurisdiction will get 15,000 ‘Deepam' connections this year, said Mayor Majid Hussain and hoped that each of the 150 corporators get 150 connections each.
The Mayor took an overview of the development activities in Nampally constituency on Monday along with MLA Mohd. Virasat Rasool Khan, and area corporators where he was informed about the demand for new gas connections. Not a single ‘Deepam' connection was given in the last two years, it was pointed out.
The public representatives also complained about contracted works not even starting because each contractor had bagged eight to 10 works and was finding it difficult to complete them. Hence, it was better to restrict one or two works to each contractor. They also wanted the stalled works to be cancelled after issuing notices to the contractors.
Lack of adequate number of dumper bins was also brought to his notice. Additional Commissioner (Planning) K. Dhananjaya Reddy explained that road widening at Noble Talkies junction was stalled as there were 51 court cases and efforts were on to seek Magisterial orders. Cheques for property acquisition were ready.
Shifting of the Mallepally market and construction of a foot over bridge near Mahaveer Hospital were other issues raised at the meeting, attended by other senior officials of GHMC.
