HYDERABAD: The twin cities erupted in joy spontaneously when the Hyderabad Deccan Chargers lifted the 2009 DLF Indian Premier League trophy in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Sunday midnight. Deccan Chargers won by six runs against Bangalore Royal Challengers, in a tense, closely contested and exciting match.
“I knew that we are going to win the match, we have defeated Delhi Daredevils and Chennai Super Kings who are much stronger than Royal Challengers,” said Vimal Singh Thakur, a cricket lover. “I guess the Banglore team was slightly overconfident as they defeated Deccan Chargers earlier.” However, some like Santosh Mantri, a software engineer, said they did not expect such an uncontested final match. “We were expecting a bitter fight but the final was just about okay as the Bangalore side gave away the match in the last over,” he said. He and his friends celebrated the victory by going on a late night ride across the city, in spite of the sharp showers which drenched the city.
Earlier in the evening, the final match was watched with bated breath. Loud cheers and excited shrieks were a common feature at many households as the young and old alike took time off to settle for an exciting game on a lazy Sunday evening.
