Special prayers offered in churches across the region
KADAPA: Christians performed prayers in Churches in Kadapa and celebrated Christmas with pomp and religious gaiety on Friday.
Rev. Manohar led a religious discourse in CSI Central Church, Rev. Kanakaraju performed a “Parisuddha aradhana” procession in CSI Christ Church, Bishop Gallela Prasad performed “Balipuja” and Rev. Fr. Samson performed “Christ aradhana” in St. Mary’s Cathedral in Mariyapuram and Fr. Jayaraju and Director Prakash performed aradhana pooja in Arogya Matha Church.
Director T.D. Prasanna Kumar delivered religious discourse and ‘aradhana’ in Krupa Prayer House in Raja Reddy Street. Aradhana pujas, bible reading and keerthans were rendered in the Congregational Church, Yesanna Church and Seventh Day Adventist, Pentecost and Xion prayer houses.
A 14-foot-high star put up near the Centenary Pylon circle was the biggest among the stars displayed before Churches. Kadapa Mayor P. Reveendranatha Reddy said Kadapa was known for communal harmony and camaraderie among people of all religions, castes and creed. He inaugurated a Christmas Star put up by Christian Association at Sunnapurallapalle here.
All the Churches and Christian prayer houses were illuminated colourfully and coloured serial lighting was put up along the main roads in Kadapa.
Nellore Staff Reporter writes: Christmas was celebrated with religious fervour in the district. Thousands attended the midnight mass on Thursday.
Special prayers were offered at Velangini Matha Church in Thotapalli Gudur, Bishop Church, St.Joseph’s Church and at Roman Catholic Church in Nellore city on Friday. Heavy rush was seen at the churches and prayer houses in the district since dawn. People decorated their houses with stars and distributed sweets.
MLAs Anam Vivekananda Reddy and M.Sridharkrishna Reddy, Mayor N.Bhanusri and others visited churches and greeted the people on the occasion.
Tirupati Special Correspondent adds: Traditional zeal and zest marked the celebration of Christmas in the temple city of Tirupati and elsewhere in the district as well.
All the three major churches besides more than half-a-dozen places of worship located across the Tirupati city were spruced up with cribs, Christmas trees, serial lamps. They were thrown open for prayers since midnight and devotees were seen streaming into the churches and participating in the prayers as the pastors read out verses and psalms from the holy Bible.
While the elders spent the day mutually exchanging greetings with their kith and kin, younger ones clad in their best, were seen celebrating the day with fun and frolic. They were also seen going on a shopping spree and distributing gifts to their near and dear. People cutting across religious lines were seen greeting their Christian brethren.
Besides gospel meetings, spiritual processions also marked the day in some parts of the town.
