Study of 220 million downloads on mobiles across music, images and games categories
HYDERABAD: Despite his adieu to filmdom, megastar Chiranjeevi is still a rage among moviegoers of the State. If the preferences of Airtel subscribers of the State are anything to go by, the actor-turned-politician tops the Most Downloaded Telugu Actor category of the Airtel Mobitude 2009 ahead of Ravi Teja and Venkatesh.
Coming to actresses, Nayantara is the most downloaded beating Ileana and Namitha in the Telugu Actress category. Mickey J Meyer’s ‘Nijanga Nenena’ from the hit film ‘Kotha Bangaru Lokam’ is the tune most downloaded followed by ‘Pavvu Takkuva Tommidi’ of Nachavule and a sentinmental ‘Anna Chelleli Anubhandham’ from ‘Gorintaku’.
Spread across different parameters, Airtel Mobitude 2009 is a study conducted by telecom major Bharti Airtel based on 220 million downloads on mobiles across music, images and games categories, according to a press release. The results of the annual survey, which captures preferences of 116 million mobile users across the country were released by the company here on Monday.
Aamir most downloaded
In Bollywood, Aamir Khan beat the other Khans, Salman and Shah Rukh, to become the most downloaded actor. Akshay Kumar and new-found heartthrob of the nation Ranbir Kapoor came fourth and fifth, respectively. Among actresses, it was the gorgeous Katrina Kaif who beat other beauties in the race. She was followed by Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and Bipasha Basu. Hollywood stars were as popular as their counterparts from the Hindi film industry, the study said.
Not surprisingly, cricket reigns supreme and the boys of the Indian team top the male sport stars category. Most downloaded is master blaster Sachin Tendulkar followed by the Indian captain M.S. Dhoni, Virendra Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh and tennis sensation from Spain Rafael Nadal.
Beauty and tennis seem to go together. Russian women dominated the Most Downloaded Female Sport stars category. Barring Hyderabadi tennis star Sania Mirza, who came in second, it was the girls from Russia all the way. Led by Maria Sharapova, tennis players Anna Chakvetadze, Anna Kournikova and Ana Ivanoviæ were the most downloaded, the study said.
It is no secret that music and Indians go in sync with each other. The study reflected that music was most downloaded in the States of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Punjab. “Regional music was as popular as Hindi songs in all these States.”
Surprisingly, for an audience that hums music from films most of the time, it is a prank April Fool tune that is most downloaded followed by the Oscar-winning ‘Jai Ho’ from Slumdog Millionaire in the third slot.
The study also revealed that messaging activity peaks during New Year eve. Users send maximum number of messages during New Year followed by Deepavali, Dasara, Hindu New Year and Friendship Day.
