PR president rejects claim that he was using film glamour to attract people
VISAKHAPATNAM: Frenzied crowds greeted megastar and Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi lustily on the first day of his road show in the district on Tuesday.
Petals were showered on him by enthusiastic fans, while Mr. Chiranjeevi appeared to have done his homework well by improving his speeches. He changed the content from place to place, adding some local flavour.
He rejected the claims of his political adversaries that he was trying to woo the people with his film glamour.
“I am here to fill a political vacuum by floating Praja Rajyam,” he said amid thunderous applause at Tagarapuvalasa, where he launched the road show in the district.
“Providing a corruption-free State with social justice to all is my motto. I am here to fulfil the dreams of teeming millions. This way I want to entertain you throughout your life,” he said.
At Sontyam, Vellanki, Anandapuram, Pendurthy and other places where he addressed crowds braving the scorching sun, he spoke with confidence, tried to break the security cordon, shook hands with fans and gave autographs even as people tried to mob his convoy leading to traffic jams.
At Gandigundem, he shook hands with G. Ramana, a physically-challenged person, gave him a garland and on seeing his damaged tricycle, presented him a Rs.1,000 note. An overwhelmed Ramana said “today is a red letter day as he could get such a wonderful gift from his matinee idol.” The crowd broke into a dance of joy when Mr. Chiranjeevi repeatedly told them that they had inspired him to plunge into politics and he was ready to do anything for them. The fans zipped past on speeding bikes from Tagarapuvalasa to Anandapuram, raising full-throated slogans. At various other places he freely mingled with physically-challenged persons and folk dancers.
