In a sudden development at Donkarai Power House on the borders of East Godavari and Visakhapatnam, electricity employees were forced to attend duties for a few hours as the Chief Engineer of Mothugudem power plant warned them of serious consequences if they failed to report to duty on Tuesday. However, the AP NGOs and Electricity Employees’ Association members rushed to the rescue of their members and saw that they should continue their stir.
The episode began on Tuesday morning when power generation was stopped at 25 MW power house in Donkarai as a result of the flash strike by electricity employees. Due to the shutdown of the Donkarai power house, the lower power house with 400 MW in Mothugudem tripped and about 500 villages in Telangana and Odisha went without power from the early hours of Tuesday.
Annoyed by the action of Donakarai power house employees, the Chief Engineer of the Mothugudem plant, Mr. Krishnaiah, rushed to the spot and got into a verbal duel with striking employees and asked them to resume duties.
When the employees refused to join duties, he warned them that they would be recommended for retrenchment from the jobs. He was later gheraoed by AP NGOs and Electricity Employees association members.
