Chess will help youngsters improve their memory power and also their analytical skills, said Dhothi Gandhi, Assistant Commissioner for Central Excise and Customs at the inaugural function of the summer camp at Global Chess Academy here on Tuesday.

He said Andhra Pradesh had produced several Grandmasters like Koneru Humpy, M.R. Lalith Babu, Dronavalli Harika and P. Hari Krishna and Vijayawada was the hub many national and State tournaments conducted at regular intervals. Academy president K. Rajendra appreciated parents for supporting their kids in learning the rudiments of the ‘brain’ game. “We will conduct talent search during the camp and the bright players will be identified for advanced grooming. We are also planning to conduct a rating tournament for professional players,” said Global Chess Academy secretary Sk. Khasim.
