A local court on Thursday sentenced a 30-year-old chef Sanjay Das to three years rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping a minor girl from her house in Abids. It also imposed a fine of Rs.3,000 and if he failed to pay the amount, he has to undergo an additional two months simple imprisonment. Second Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge D. Dharma Rao, held Das guilty. Das hailing from Assam came to the city four years ago to work as a chef in a function hall at Abids, where he met John, working as a sweeper.

Das was accused of luring John’s 16-year-old daughter and taking her to Assam. The girl managed to call her father, who informed the Abids police. They in turn alerted their Assam counterparts, who arrested Das and sent the girl to a rescue home. Later, the Abids police brought Das to the city on a prisoner’s transit warrant and produced him at the Nampally court which remanded him to judicial custody.
