Zilla Parishad chief to be from Scheduled Tribes for the first time

ADILABAD: For the first time Adilabad Zilla Parishad (ZP) will have a chairman from the Scheduled Tribes and the 10 Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTC) reserved for STs will be in sharp focus in the coming local body elections.

The next chairman of ZP will hail from one of the ST reserved ZPTCs of Adilabad, Talamadugu, Sarangapur, Mamda, Kubeer, Khanapur, Kadam, Jannaram, Vemanpalli, Asifabad and Koutala, as it has been reserved for ST (general).

After a prolonged exercise, reservations for Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTC) and Mandal Parishads in the district have been declared. The reservations are based on population of individual categories.

Besides the 10 ZPTCs reserved for STs from among the 52 in the district, 10 have been reserved for SCs, 17 for BCs and 15 are unreserved. Women will have 17 of these constituencies exclusively for them.

The traditional ST reserved seats like Indervelli, Utnoor, Sirpur (U) and Jainoor have lost their status to other categories. They are now reserved respectively for BC (women), BC (general), BC (women) and SC (women). Notably, Adilabad ZPTC has been reserved for ST (general) for the first time.

Adilabad Mandal Parishad has been allotted to SC (women), while Indervelli Parishad has been allotted to ST (general) in place of ST (women). As some of the reservations did not fit with the expectations of political parties there are bound to be readjustments.
