Chandra Bose elected BSI president

Reverend P.N.S. Chandra Bose has been unanimously elected president of the Bible Society of India for the year 2013. Dr. Bose was elected at the national general council meeting held in Bangalore on January 30.

Established at Kolkata as an extension of the British and Foreign Bible Society, the BSI, with its headquarters in Bangalore, has a pan-India presence and has 15 auxiliaries. The BSI bicentennial celebrations were held in Guntur in February 2011.

With an encompassing ministry of translating the Bible into as many languages as possible, the BSI has emerged as the second largest printer in the country next only to the Government of India. The Bible is translated into more than 240 languages in India, including tribal dialects.

Dr. Bose is associated with Christian ministry and has held important positions. He is national general secretary of Gospel Mission of India and president of Bethel Bible College. Dr. Bose was awarded with Pratibha Puraskar by Acharya Nagarjuna University in 2011.
