A chain-snatching gang was busted by the Government Railway Police at Visakhapatnam railway station.
Giving details to the media on Wednesday, GRP Deputy Superintendent of Police Karanam Kumar and Inspector J. Murali said that five of the eight-member gang were arrested when they were trying to snatch gold chains from passengers on platform No. 1 on Tuesday evening.
During the course of interrogation, it was found that they were natives of a village near Howrah.
The accused had committed chain- snatchings in and around Howrah and cases were pending against them at Howrah.
Gold ornaments weighing two tolas were recovered from them.
The police suspect that the accused could have sent back some more stolen property to their village.
The accused were sent for remand.
Three more members of the gang are at large.
Government Railway Police are investigating the case.
