BJP State president G. Kishan Reddy has charged the Centre with discriminating against the State when it comes to releasing funds for farmers, who lost crops due to heavy rains.

Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, Mr. Reddy, who arrived in the district to observe the crop loss and also the devastation brought about by the rains, accused the government of having failed to provide relief to the farming community. He said that Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy took more interest in ensuring victory to his party in the local body elections than in rescuing flood victims.

Farmers lost crops in over 2 lakh acres in the district following the incessant rains that occurred for 10 days. Ministers should mount pressure on the Centre to release sufficient funds to pay compensation to farmers and also the poor, who were rendered homeless with rains razing their dwellings, he said.

On the Telangana issue, he said the Congress had no intention to deliver a separate State and was passing time in the name of core committee and CWC meetings to hoodwink people.

Saying that Telangana was the prime issue for his party, he appealed to the people to attend on a large scale Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting to be held in Hyderabad on August 11.

Mr. Kishan Reddy later proceeded to Bichkunda and Jukkal to observe the damages of rain.
