ADILABAD: Five pro-Telangana activists were booked by Asifabad police on Friday for causing wrongful confinement of people for staging a rasta roko near Asifabad bus stand, demanding formation of a separate State.

This was the first time that agitators were booked for blockading traffic since the start of the agitation for separate Telangana in December last year.

The case was registered by Asifabad Sub-Inspector Allam Narender under Sections 143 and 341 read with 149 IPC against Wanaparthy Tirupathi, mandal president of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and his associates R. Keshav, S. Jeevan, Md. Vazeer and Nambaiah, all residents of Asifabad town.

The complaint was filed by traffic constable K. Ankaiah who charged the accused of obstructing his work while he was on traffic regulation duty.
