HYDERABAD: The Punjagutta police on Friday registered a case against Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy under Representation of People’s Act on the charge of violating the election code.
The State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) had already lodged a complaint in this regard a week ago.
“According to the Chief Electoral Officer, Dr. Reddy had addressed a press conference at his camp office-cum residence at Somajiguda after the campaigning came to an end and thus violated the election code,” the police said.
As it was not a cognizable offence, the complaint was forwarded to a local court. The case was formally registered on Saturday after the court accorded permission. The CEO also complained against some news channels that had telecast the press conference and the matter was under investigation.
