Visakha Music Academy honoured Chennai-based carnatic music exponents Ranjani and Gayatri with its Dwaram Venkataswamy Naidu Puraskar as part of ongoing six-day festival of music and dance at Kalabharati here on Wednesday.
President of the academy S.V. Rangarajan, secretary M.S. Srinivas along with chief guest O. Naresh Kumar of Symbiosis Technologies warmly felicitated the duo and presented the puraskar. Also, the duo received the award instituted in memory of Vangala Narasimha Deekshitulu and Alamelumanga.
The award carries Rs 10,000 cash.
Responding to honour Gayatri of the duo said that Andhra Pradesh has been of pivotal importance in the propagation of carnatic music and many a great Telugu saint composer had enriched the idiom of carnatic classical music beyond measure.
It was a great honour receiving an award named after Dwaram Venkataswamy Naidu whose contribution as violin maestro remains matchless, she added. K.V. Rama Murthy, Ayyagari Bhujanga Rao, Sripada Venkanna, Perala Balamurali Krishna and others took part. Later, vocal concert of the duo regaled the music lovers.
