KHAMMAM: Congress workers took out a rally demanding that Y.S. Jaganmohan Redy, son of late chief minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, be made the next Chief Minister.
Scores of leaders, including Municipal Vice-Chairman Ponnam Venkateswarlu and others led the rally from the forefront.
They raised slogans appealing to the party leadership to opt for the right choice in the State in the larger interests of the party. They said that Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy was the unanimous choice of the party leaders in the State as well as the general public and all hopes were pinned on him, they said.
The partymen took out similar rallies in Bhadrachalam, Kothagudem and Sathupalli. DCMS chairman K. Ramachandramurthy and his supporters embarked on a fast in Bhadrachalam in support of the demand for making Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy as Chief Minister. Banners and flex boards of Mr. Reddy appeared at all vantage points in the town.
The youth Congress would take up a State-wide programme reaching out to the Congress workers and loyalists grieving the death of Rajasekhara Reddy in the districts, according to M.A. Abid, chairman of the Khammam zilla grandhalaya samstha.
He said that the programme would start from Khammam and the details would be announced soon.
