A number of volunteers from various organisations, hospitals and educational institutions have come together to campaign hard against tobacco consumption on ‘World No Tobacco Day’ in the city.
Educating the passers-by on the implications of cigarette smoking, displaying placards and raising slogans, Visakha Hriday Shan has organised ‘Hriday Health Walk’ where cardiologist C.S. Srinivas, and president of Visakha Hriday Shan M. Bhaskara Rao and other members of the organisation participated.
Vice-Chancellor of Gitam University G. Subramanyam appreciated the efforts taken by the organisation to create awareness among people and flagged off the walkathon.
Students and staff of Gitam Dental College, doctors of Mahatma Gandhi Cancer Hospital and Research Institute, doctors and staff of Queen’s NRI Hospital also supported the rally that aimed at making people understand the adverse effects of tobacco taken in any form.
A team of doctors from Queen’s NRI Hospital underlined the need to implement no smoking rule in offices, apartments and other public places.
Principal of Gitam Dental College K. Gangadhara Prasad, surgical oncologist and managing director of Mahatma Gandhi Cancer Hospital and Research Institute V. Murali Krishna and a number of cardiologists participated in the rally that began from Kali Temple on the Beach Road to VUDA Park.
